Now, I'm one of those old enough to remember the original release of star Wars Episode IV (later titled "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope") back in the 70's. I was a six year old lad and I remember seeing it on holiday in Bournemouth - I was gob-smacked and became instanty hooked. Now 30-odd years later, my enthusiasm is barely diminished. Jar Jar Binks aside (I mean, even I was a smidgen irritated by Jar Jar), the prequels were very good films and when the trailer for Episode I: The Phantom Menace was first released I gathered all of my colleagues at work around a computer to watch. Most of them were as excited as I was (or very good at humouring me). So I think it's only fair that the next generation should get to share. Wow, reading this back I have revealed myself to be a total geek but I don't care. Star Wars is excellent.

Anyway the range of toys is huge so I'll mention a few of what I think are the must haves.

So, if you know a kid who doesn't have a Star Wars Lightsabre, buy them one. Every kid has to own one... it's the law. And the vehicles: the Millenium Falcon, the X-wing, the Tie Fighter; the action figures and not forgetting the dressing up costumes.

Now in 2009, the Star wars Clone Wars series is proving very successful - the Clone Wars toys are excellent.
